The Influence of Mime

THE INFLUENCE OF MIME

By Jane Ellen Lazar, 1990, Oakland, California

"It is certainly true that my studies with Samuel were a powerful influence in my live. I was very young, only 21 years old, when I met him, and my two years of classes with him, as well as my interactions with the other students in his classes, influenced a wide range of elements in my life."

That experience has touched almost every aspect of my life including my relationship to my body and movement, my sense of humor, my actual personality, my sense of theater and drama, and my understanding of concentration and performance.

From these seeds, I added many studies along similar lines. I value my mime studies with Samuel very much.

To go back nearly 20 years and trace the effects through to my current life is a big project. I am working full-time, planning a class that I will be teaching, and taking a course for a possible career change.

Editor's note:
Jane studied with Samuel in 1972-73-74. She is a Hakomi teacher in the San Francisco Bay area

"Samuel brings awareness to the soul of people and gives the artists who work under his direction the need, dedication, and love for the world of silence and the beautiful art of movement."

- Marcel Marceau, BIP 1961
